The reason for the misspelling is that Americans commonly spell the pronounced cc in Maccha with a t...turning the correct Japanese preferred spelling of Maccha into the American spelled version of Matcha. The Japanese government when asked about the common misspelling asked that it be labeled and sold with the correct spelling. Just make sure you buy fine quality Japanese Maccha.
