The reason why you need to meditate is because of all the positive life changing benefits you can get from meditation. Studies have shown that people who meditate on a regular basis have dramatically reduced illness, stress, and need for rest.

Meditation is not solely dependent upon the effects, but the act of meditation itself is a wonderfully blissful one, transporting you to an increased state of contentment and tranquil awareness. Actually, because the means and the end are pretty much the same thing, the training has no beginning and will never end.
Most of us in today’s world experience a constant onslaught of stress. We are inundated by negative energies in the form of such things as television, noise pollution, arguments, and angry or envious people. In order to overcome this overwhelming sense of negativity and stress, we need a greater power, gathered within ourselves; and meditation connects us to this internal reservoir of powerful enlightening energy.
In the past, nature surrounded people in their daily routines and everyday lives. There were no telephones or modern day machinery; there were no stresses and diseases resulting from urban industrial polution. There was just the sound of water, the whistle of the wind, the awesome beauty of the stars in the sky, and the power of the mother earth. There were natural energies in all aspects of life, as people planted gardens, nurtured them into healthy whole foods, and as they were in tune to the cycles of nature they felt a divine connection to them.
Today we can live our entire life without ever connecting to nature in this way. We live in artificially controlled environments, we get our food from fast food restaurants or from stores where it is pre-packaged in a factory; we have totally removed ourselves from our natural origins and our organic, original aspect of life.
When we learn how to Meditate it allows us an easy, convenient, effective method to enter into those lost natural rhythms and aesthetics, by closing out the world around us, letting go of our bodies, and clearing the mind of all the artificial stress it gathers knowingly or unknowingly during the course of lives.
Meditation has no harmful side affects, nor is it addictive forming in the way that your reliance on drugs and alcohol are. But it does give us an elevated sense of well-being, which often referred to to as a natural “high” and just this one component of meditation is one that you must fully embrace for a more positive and healthy life.
The human body is very complex, and our brains naturally produces hormones and chemicals that are many times more powerful than the drugs that the pharmaceutical companies force down our throats. As you learn how to meditate, you will notice that the body begins to secrete numerous hormones and chemicals that actually give you an incredible rush of energy and happiness, and this is only one of the many potential amazing side effects when you discover the power of meditation.
Meditation means different things to different people. Some use it in place of, or in addition to, psychotherapy. Others find it most valuable as a tool to enhance sports or work performance, and to increase the memory and other mental functions. Some people rely upon it to help them deal with grief or the aftermath of trauma or tragedy, and to regain a contentment and appreciation for life’s beauties. And there are those who use meditation as a creative tool to inspire them in the arts. Meditation gives us stronger and more sustainable vigor, sexual energy, and calm, as it provides a restfulness that is comparable to deep, exceptionally restful sleep.
There are countless reasons to learn how to meditate, and is a great way to help make the world a better and more peaceful harmonious place. It is up to each of us to take some time out of our stressful lives to stop and drink from the mental oasis of meditation practice.
