Chardham is essentially a journey in which the pilgrim has to cover the four major religious sites in Uttarakhand, which is better known as the abode of God. According to Hindu mythology, King Bhagirath had prayed to Lord Shiva for years and as his blessing Lord Shiva rewarded Bhagirath by sending River Ganga on earth. Gangotri Dham is Situated at 99 km from Uttrarkashi, at height of 3140 meters.A shrine dedicated to the Goddess was built some 250 years ago by Amar Bahadur Thapa, the Gorkha Commander.A dip in the holy river at Gangotri frees you from all your bad deeds.
Kedarnath is third destination of this tour. Kedarnath is the place where Lord Shiva Lingam has been installed in the beautiful temple where the perpetual snow clad exists on the Himalayas and down to the flower-decked Mandakini Valley. The ancient temple of Kedamath was constructed by Pandavas. This is one among Dwadasha Jyotirlinga. Kedarnath is named after King Kedar who had a daughter 'Vrinda' who was a partial incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees from across the world flock the temple to offer their prayers to Lord Shiva at the Kedarnath temple.
Badrinath is the last destination of Chardham Yatra. Shri Badrinath is protected by the double mountain ranges of Nar and Narayan range close to the very tall Neelkanth Peak. Badrinath is believed to be the earthly abode of Lord Vishnu. Badrinath Temple was built by Adiguru Shankaracharya.
