To those that aren’t used to meditation it may feel unnatural and foreign to them. An experience that is somehow something to be achieved, researched and explored. At this point there is limited self-awareness due to the disconnect one feels when they begin to explore the practice of meditation. Meditation is our natural state of mind and the entire nature of the mind can be summed up as our meditation.
Self –awareness begins when we can learn to relax completely, which we do by allowing ourselves to fully let go of our conscious self without forcing ourselves to do so. The experience happens when we just let everything be as it is and tune into the silence rather than the constant chatter that is within our minds. This will become the state of self-awareness we seek, which is our meditation. This state of silence is more than just the absence of sound; it is the natural presence of the mind. When we leave our thoughts and problems behind all we are left with is the awesome power of self-awareness.
You can consider meditation as a process of self-discovery. We begin to see the patterns that
have shaped our lives that began in childhood and have continued on till the present day. We see how we remain attached to these emotional bonds of childhood. But as we begin this journey of self-awareness we begin to experience from a different level and we can begin to free ourselves from these self-images and touch upon our inner potential. We begin to see through the minds’ posturing that limits us with excuses and ill-conceived explanations of the nature of the world around us. We realize that we are merely playing games and we begin to understand just how far we are from genuine self-awareness.
If we continue to set limits and restrictions on ourselves by our rigid points of view we will not be able to accept that we can enjoy experiences that have no relation to our normal senses or projections. We must get beyond objectifying concepts, beyond the dualistic views we maintain and even beyond our concepts of time and space. What are you really giving up by freeing your mind of these self-defeating concepts? You may lose some of your fears, biased ideas and even your tense clinging to the security of your imagined “I”.
True self-awareness can only be realized when we can stop alienating ourselves from ourselves and live in the realm of understanding of our true nature, which is our intrinsic nature and is our true home.
