"If the world were to blow itself up the last thing you would hear would be the voice of an expert saying it can't be done." --Peter Ustinov
Are you setting impossible goals?
Why do we pay so much attention to what other people think? Who knows what’s better for us than us? Our dreams and our desires are just that…OURS… They told the Beatles that they would never be popular because that style of music wasn’t right for the times! We all know the success they had.
At the age of 21 Stephen Hawking was given two years to live. He has lived to become one of the premier theoretical physicists in history and is the author of the best selling book “A Brief History Of Time”. He has also become a Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge. Did he listen to those that told him his goals were impossible?
What about Jim Thorpe? James Francis Thorpe,(“Wathahuck”, meaning “Bright Path”) was an American Indian living in Prague Oklahoma in the late 1800’s. How many times do you think he was told his goals and dreams were a fantasy? There were very few opportunities for any American Indian at this time. That didn’t stop him. A year after trying the high jump at his school in Pennsylvania he won two Olympic gold metals at the 1912 Olympics and was touted as the greatest athlete that ever lived.
Another great example is Audi L. Murphy. He was born the son of poor Texas sharecroppers, Audie, whose father abandoned the family when he was only 16 and when his mother unexpectedly died found himself faced with the overwhelming task of raising his younger brothers and sisters by himself.
His sense of patriotism called upon him to join the US Army during World War II to help provide a safer more secure world to live in. He fought in a total of nine campaigns during the war and received a battlefield commission and the Congressional Medal of Honor for single handedly killing or capturing 240 nazi soldiers. He also received every
decoration for valor and bravery that his country had to offer, including 5 individual decorations by France and Belgium. In all, Audie
received 33 distinguished military awards and became the most decorated American soldier of World War II.
These are just a few examples of people that have reached their goals and desires regardless of the adversity they had to overcome. They didn’t accept that they couldn’t do it. They filled their hearts and their minds with passion and a positive attitude. They didn’t take no for an answer.
Set some goals for yourself and don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t do it!
It's only impossible if you believe it's impossible.
